Wow. Wow wow wow. This
is what baseball is all about.
I won't bore you with the details, but
it was 4-0 Dodgers going into the bottom of the ninth, and most of the modest
crowd had already retreated from the considerable heat of the afternoon.
However, the fat lady who was scheduled to
sing apparently had her mouth full of Skyline coneys, because the Reds scored
four runs in the bottom of the ninth to tie it up- with the help of a boneheaded
play by the Dodger closer, who beaned the next batter after a Reds homer and
was immediately ejected for it.
The Reds bullpen, which over the last few days
has been about as robust and protective as F-Troop, suddenly found its legs
and held the Dodgers scoreless through four.
 In the bottom of the
13th, with a man on first, Ken Griffey Jr. gave the ball a nice aerial tour
of the park, last stop, deep over the right-center fence.
Final score, Reds 6, Dodgers 4, and for
those who chose to give up on the Reds and leave the game early, I offer
this heartfelt consolation: Bwa-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-haaaa.

In the meantime, I made good
on my threat to make the camera operable with duct tape, and managed to
get quite a few nice shots of the area and of downtown Cincinnati.

I also got somewhat
beety from being in the sun so long, so now I'm a real "red fan" (rimshot).
That's the price you pay, I guess-- it's nothing a little fresh aloe
woudn't cure. Oh, wait, I'm not in the tropics right now. ;)
Now here is an interesting set of observations...
1. The Cardinals lead the Reds in the division, largely because they
have more
money with which to acquire talented players.
2. The Cardinals are owned by Anheuser-Busch.
3. Budweiser (an Anheuser-Busch product) is sold at Reds home games.
Am I missing something here?
Late in the evening I tried Gold Star Chili in a 3-way (on top of spaghetti,
all covered with cheese. Hey, I didn't invent it or write the song).
Very tasty! Not better or worse than Skyline, just different--
a little meatier, but a little less flavor.
I guess it's already time to go. How did that happen? I just
blinked and whoosh, there went the whole week. I never really got to
take a good look at the river, which is a simple but functional excuse to
come back.
